NATAWU defends workers’ rights, opposes privatisation, fights exploitation, and unites transport workers through strong shop stewards and leadership.
Who We Are
National African Transport & Allied Workers Union (NATAWU) was formed on 3 May 2024 in response to widespread dissatisfaction among workers with previously recognised unions. Many workers felt that existing unions were no longer acting in their best interests and were compromising workers’ rights by prioritising employer interests.
With over 5,000 active members across three regional branches, NATAWU provides a powerful voice for workers in negotiations with employers and government.
We believe in the power of collective action and solidarity. Through unity, we achieve fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for all workers.

Our History
2024-Present
NATAWU was founded on 3 May 2024. The union quickly expanded to include allied workers in logistics, warehousing, and distribution sectors, opening regional offices in Cape Town, KZN, and Gauteng.
